As you are aware I have been at Blind Veterans UK Llandudno for the past few days, for the Founders Day Award Ceremony, these are awarded to members that have demonstrated the values of the charity, and I was lucky enough to win the Creative Award.
A quote about Founders Day from Chief Executive of Blind Veterans UK, Major General (Rtd) Nick Caplin CB says: “Our Founder’s Day Awards are the highest honour Blind Veterans UK gives to the veterans we support. Every year we recognise the achievements of veterans like Mark who have really demonstrated the values we hold as a charity. Mark, along with the other nominees and winners, are the shining examples of all that can be done to achieve victory over blindness."
I was nominated by two members of staff firstly Glynis Gillam who runs the working age section of the charity and secondly by my community support team leader, Colin Crawly and of course I thank them, winning this award was some what over whelming and humbling for me as I know there are more deserving members than me, and I only do what I do through enjoyment. I of course could not have done any of this with out the support of many other people especially Lou and Dave from arts and crafts Brighton who helped make the exhibition happen and gave me the courage to do it.
I have to thank my wife as the events I do for Blind Veterans UK keep me away from home a lot although I think she likes this bit.
None of this would have been possible with out the continued support from staff at Blind Veterans UK from the staff that serve my tea, to the CEO and fellow members I thank you all and look forward to seeing you at an event soon and I look forward to doing many more events for Blind Veterans UK through out the country.
