Today at West Clewes saw local rivals Radstock Town visit for the return Derby fixture on a sunny spring day supported by a crowd of over 400. The Radstock Town fans were lively and in good voice it would be a big game for Rovers, the whistle blew and we were underway with Welton Rovers making a positive start but Radstock had a lot of fans today and Welton Rovers needed to act to quieten them down a bit and on the eighth minute Welton Rovers did just that with their striker getting through on goal and the Radstock keeper not up to the quality, 1 up to Welton Rovers now that gave Radstock a shock accompanied by a roar from the green army, the first half remained that way and a few chances for both sides but at the half time whistle with the score at 1 nil, the second half could be a good one.
So into the second half and much of the same really until Radstock broke free on 60 minutes and pulled one back to make it one each but 9 minutes later Rovers took the lead. Rovers were playing much better than they had for a while with players stepping up. Radstock seemed to drop off not sure if it was caused by the heat or just a long season, Welton Rovers pushed on and started to take the advantage. Rovers made their first substitution on 70 minutes although a bit late for me but we should be used to that, it was a good one with the incoming player putting in a great effort from the moment he got on, for me Radstock were beginning to struggle and with Rovers number 8 running riot in the midfield and scoring it was a great game for him today, alongside his fellow midfielder who grabbed a brace to help make the final score 4-1 on the day.
I have to say Welton Rovers were a lot better yesterday to the most part they still have a few issues that need to be looked at including set pieces as they are still being wasted, the squad seemed a lot happier today which obviously improved their performance against local rivals Radstock. Both sides step it up a bit as neither side wants to loose to the other, however this time the 3 points went to a well deserved Welton Rovers.
Rovers travel to newly crowned League Champions Sherborne Town on Monday should be a good game especially if rovers continue with todays progress, sadly I will not be traveling on Monday. Speeking of me if I miss a game I alway get asked where I was, which is great with only a couple of games left this year I think its only fair to tell you all (some already know) that due to a very recent diagnosis and imminent treatment which is probably going to slow me down quite a bit and reduce the amount of games I will be able to attend therefore the amount of photos from games will be less for you to view and for the papers to publish! I really struggled yesterday and this is the reason I will not be travelling away on Monday, I have been told it could be well into next season before I recover from the treatment. I just wanted to let you all know as you have all been great over the years supporting my website and my some times controversial blog I don't want you to think I have just stopped Thanks
